Definitely a thunderbolt. Probably will bellow like a Mosin Nagant
carbine. Does the scope mount allow the substitution of some sort of iron sight?

I like the looks of your setup and a 16" Mauser would be fairly handy to carry around. How well does the ATI stock hold up? I have heard some
disheartening reviews and comments made about ATI in general and have stayed away from them for that reason. If yours really has worked out that well for you
maybe I'll give them another look. I have some project ideas for a cut down mauser with an extended magazine. About the lack of iron sights, with the
rail it shouldn't be tough to mount some after-market flip-up sights on there. Granted you won't have much radius for distance shooting but they are
back-up after all right.
This is a bad idea with SWEET written all over it. |

Wow...I got dizzy looking at the pattern on that stock! A good combat pistol will probably serve as well as back-up sights, and a good pistol is kind of a
"must" with just about anything scoped. I see something peeking out of the vest, don't know if it's a full size pistola or not. Or is it just
a small carry gun?
Anyhow, looks like you know enough about stocks to make it work well, negative reviews or not.

I know this post is a little old but I got a couple questions regarding your rifle.
Before bedding how good did the rifle fit into the ATI stock? Have you noticed any ballistic shortcomings while taking longer shots with the rifle at 16" opposed to 22"? Do you find it faster to aquire targets with the LER scope opposed to a regular? Was the rail modification difficult? Have you tried any of the yugo m75 sniper ammo availiable? I ask because I have a 1924 (not a m24/47) Yugo barrelled action sans a stock and I really want to do something with it. Your rifle looks great as far as what I would like to do with mine. Any info, advice, or lessons learned from your project would help out alot. Thanks a bunch. |

I finally finished mine too
here it is
I know this post is a little old but I got a couple questions regarding your rifle. i cant answer all your questions the way you may want because mine is a bit different but ill tell you bout mine and maybe it will help. -ok, I didnt bed mine, when i first put it in it was a bit of a tight fit but i was able to just pop it in with a little pressure. no mods were needed. -ballistically the rifle is slightly less accurate from the shorter barrel but then again its a scout rifle for middle range applications. -target aquisition is very very fast with my setup, a ler would be a bit slower than what i have but still way faster than irons due to the fact that you can shoot with both eyes open. -rail mod was easy, just cut off the ent that goes over the bolt before you put the top rail onto the rifle. about 2 seconds with a hacksaw. -i have never tried the sniper ammo with this rifle bit then again its a cut down scout, not a sniper rig. 2 very different applications. -no advice for you on the project, it was easy and self explanitory. i would strongly urge you to do it though if you have a barreled action laying around, it sounds like a perfect use. in my opinion this stock is ugly but cool looking at the same time, and though it looks like it would be clunky, it actually has a very comfortable feel to it. i really love mine. also i didnt put a bi pod on mine because its a scout rifle not a sniper rig and i felt that the extra weight would not serve the rifle well for what it is. one thing i didnt put on, but do want at some point is a muzzle break.
If the man is inexperienced - he will do equally well with either rifle - he'll just do it cheaper with the SKS.

Oh maaan, that is sweet.
The stock, Druid, the stock. What is it, where did you get it, what did you do to it? How did you treat the muzzle? Any comments on using a Mosin action and barrel? rn49 |

the stock is the same as the one at the top of the thread, its just the ATI stock that they make for large ring mausers. it would be nifty if they made one to
fit a mosin but sadly they do not. all i did to the barrel was take a hack saw to it then a couple of files to smooth it out. shoots just fine with no special
fluff.
by the way i like whitchdoc's paint job better but i didnt have any netting to facilitate a snakeskin pattern at the time.

I like the looks of this setup, as I have stated before. I had a thought about back up iron sights for this rig. I have a set of flip up iron sights (BUIS) designed for the AR series that mount onto a weaver rail. With the weaver rail cut just ahead of the action like you guys have it may be possible to add sights that way. I know that there wont be too much room in between the sights but I think that will still work. What do you guys think? |

I think anything for backup sights is better than nothing. I was thinking of doing something like that for a 10/22 that I have that the original owner tried
to "bubba " the gun a removed the iron sights for some reason I can't remember. I have a red dot on it for now but I am thinking of trying out
AR-15 type flip up sights as a means of having something other than just a scope. Let me know how they work out for you.
