I would like to know the maximum effective range of the M1 Carbine with original sights in the hands of a well trained (say US Army or USMC) rifleman using
standard milsurp ammo who holds an expert badge. This question is time critical, lets say 36 hours from now at 2008 hours. Thanx.

Thanx Klick. Somewhere in my brain I think I read where someone said 200 meters so 300 would really be pushing it. We still have 33 hours to go...C'mon
people surely theres some old crusty Gunny out there who knows the answer.....

Maximum effective range of the M1 Carbine. I believe for it to be 300 up to maybe 400 meters IMO.

Everything I've read is the 30 carbine is accurate and holds energy out to 200 but can still make "good enough" hits at 300. A person would have
to know the bullet drop though they seem to start their dive at 100 yards. I've yet to test one out though.

Wickedpidia is pulling someone's leg.
9X19mm Carbines have a 300 yard effective range, and ballistics and trajectory of the .30 carbine would be about the same as the 9mm, from a carbine length barrel. The .30 carbine starts out a little faster than a 9mm, out of a carbine barrel, but the heavier bullet kind of evens things out. For either cartridge, that's more range than what most people would guess. And, a 300 meter maximum effective range is more than capable in most situations. Ranges beyond 300 meters, either break contact and run, or get closer to your target.

300 is the Maximum and it is running out of steam fast. It still has 1000FPS at that distance though the poor ballistics of the bullet scrub off velocity fast.
It is not a a powerhouse, but at 100 yards it has the same energy as a .357 at the muzzle, so no I would not want to get hit by one.
Commercial Carbines are not on my list of combat carbines, you may luck out and get a good one........or you may not.
